.htaccess and FTP

Is some sites I'm building I realized that FTP connection hangs in foldes that have an .htaccess file on it. It becomes these folders unreacheables from FTP but not from the cpanel's file manager. It also happens with some other scripts.
Do you have such a problem on your sites?

No, I use .htaccess files for mod_rewrite, and it works fine!

It could just be your FTP program. Download FileZilla and see if it works. I think it has to do with the way some FTP programs handle the directory listing.
