German books

gagabepp
Hi, are there any Germans in here, or people interested in German books?
It would be interesting to discuss about books from my native country.

I would be interested in recommendations, I speak / read German. Right now I just read newspapers and some linguistics articles that I need for my courses. I was also looking at a Yiddish encyclopedia written in German.

Here I make a short list, of what first comes to my mind now, when thinking about who are top authors writing in german:

Deutschstunde - Siegfried Lenz.
Das Parfum - Patrick Süsskind.
(not from Germany but Original Language is Franz Kafka).
Faust - I think Goethe really gets to point the beauty in the german language.

This links to Project Gutenberg - a collection of classic literature of german origin or translated into the german language. There is a lot of rather heavy stuff also amongst the books. But I consider the link very useful, just to read around a little and maybe find authors you like.
