Maybe you can all help me with this. My microphone and all other means of recording stopped working on this windows XP. I used to be able to record from what was playing on the computer or from things I say into the microphone, etc. but now it won't record anything on any recording programs. Any help?
Recording stopped working on WinXP
Check your audio settings - your microphone is probably muted.
To do this, double-click on the "volume" icon in the task bar, or go into START > SETTINGS > CONTROL PANEL > SOUND AND AUDIO DEVICES then click ADVANCED (under volume options) and uncheck the "mute" box at the MICROPHONE volume slider.

And also make sure that no other device is using the sound hardware (Mediaplayer, Winamp, etc), even if they should not affect each other.
Also check the Device manager if you have any exclamation marks there! If you have installed any device recently, you might have an irq collision.
Good luck!
