searching for FREE windows FTP server service

Hello Folks!

I'd like to run a FTP server in my home network on a winXP pc.
Problem is that this pc has multiple users. So when no-one is logged on the ftp server I've running right now is not working when no-one is logged on.

Does a FTP server as NT Service work if nobody is logged on?
Does anyone know a free FTP server that can run as a NT Service?

You'll find a list of ftp servers here : http://www.sofotex.com/download/FTP_Software/Ftp_Servers/. I never tried one, but there should be some (freeware / shareware or commercial) ftp servers that are ok for you.

You could also enable IIS that is delivered with windows. Here is a site that can help in the configuration : http://weblogs.asp.net/owscott/archive/2004/02/05/68423.aspx. Browse the microsoft site for more information (install instructions for IIS ftp in dutch : http://www.microsoft.com/netherlands/ondernemers/techniek_techniek/ftp_server.aspx; this must exist in other languages too).

Take a look at downstairs.dnsalias.net. They do a http and ftp server for free.

Both can be started as services, simple to use and as I stated FREE.

Try GuildFTPd it's quite a good Windows FTP server, with there new beta version you can run it as a service but remeber it's only a beta and there development is kind of slow.

Yes you can have the service running if you are logged off
