BUFFALO, N.Y. - A polite bank robber was ordered evaluated at a Buffalo hospital after taking $50 and waiting for police to arrest him.
"Please give me $50 so I can go to jail," the 32-year-old man's note to a teller said. "No one will get hurt and I will wait for the police outside. Sorry for the inconvenience."
The teller complied and the man calmly waited in the lobby of the HSBC Bank branch to be arrested Wednesday, police said.
The man's name was not immediately released by police. The results of the evaluation were not available early Thursday. |

I know that life always isn't a great one for everyone. But asking to go to jail and comitting a crime as small as that to get there. I kinda feel bad for the guy.
Wow, guess he must have been tired of life to want to go to jail. I feel sorry for him too.
At least he gets food and shelter.

I wonder what the temp. was outside? I agree that food/shelter was his goal and being close to Christmas was probably a factor as well. At least he didn't try to Suicide by Cop - that would have made for a lousy Christmas for him, witnesses and the cop.
The guy really is pretty lucky. There are a lot of people out there who don't get a warm meal or a bed or even a cot to sleep on. He gets to go to a hospital with 3 nice meals a day and cable t.v., maybe even an attractive nurse or two, sounds like a decent deal. the fact that there aren't any shelters around or food kitchens to help people like this out, so that they have to resort to petty crime just to survive, speaks a lot about society nowadays. Maybe we could use some of the billions of dollars going to "other things" to help some people out at home. Just a thought.
Sadly enough, going to jail is a huge improvement in the quality of life for a lot of people. He now gets regular peoples and isn't sleeping outside like he probably was before.
If he gets away with going to prision for the shelter many people will try to copy him just so they get the shelter as well.
I do feel bad for him... asking to go to jail is not something any person would usually do.
man, i feel bad for that guy....... his life must really suck if he wants to go to jail....
yeah thats sad. its really shows that we should stop this wasteful spending of money on burecracy and bring it to the people that really need it.
He doesnt sound insane to me so...
Either he's gay and horny
Or he wanted food and shelter...
If he isnt gay i recon he was quite luck...hospital has got to be more comfortable than jail...

On a more sad note...yea...its to bad that this kinda thing can happen in our society...
Everyone should try their hardest to vote for leftwing parties!

i dont think hes gay, but maybe he was poor or just down on luck??
He must have watched Prison Break just before robbing it ! Maybe his brother is in Death row ?
But i agree with you, robbing a bank is probably the only good thing a homeless can do. It's better than suicide, anyway.
He robbed a bank, but considering the circumstances of the "robbery" (if it could even be called that) he may find that he doesn't end up with a particularly long sentence. Jail is for people who aren't quite as nice as him, and until he turns into one he's going to find it difficult to fast-track his way in.
Hell Yeah, do it proper. Do your best to get all the money and spend it before you get caught. See how much lobster, beef loin, and champagne you can consume before they bust down the door. Dont get out of the hot tub for anything.
Well it might not be life being bad...
For all we know, dude might not be able to afford ... well.. anything.
Being in jail would be full of luxories for someone that lives on the streets. Maybe he felt guilty for something else he had done, but was afraid of death sentence? I hear they have that in the states, but I don't know where they do or don't.
I'd like to hear his reasons though. I'm sure it's something perfectly logical. Now, not saying that it could be something completely insane or stupid - but heck, if I had nothing, I sure as hell would rob a bank to get put in jail!
