Does your network has a dns server to give auto ip address?
Btw, is there any connection at all?

I though Air Port was only for music...
You need to make sure you have some form of DHCP enabled in order for a machine to get an IP automatically. DNS is for resolve from a domain name to an IP (i.e. Google.com -> 216.239.57.99).
wad kind of router u use ?
Macs are actually far superior to Windows in many ways, but that is for another thread.
As for your issue, you need a DHCP enabled connection with auto-assign clicked.
At the router, make sure that new addresses can be assigned. Some do not do it by default.

try with a static ip , ping other computer !
I would rather use static IP addresses...its much faster on startup..
