Is it possible to use rsync?

withaar
I like using rsync keeping the site up to date. Is there a way to use it?

If you need to install anything on the server, then most likely, the answer is no.

Please elaborate. Does anything need to be done on the server to support this? How does it work?

The rsync protocol exists on unix systems (and perhaps others). You can use it to synchronize to folder trees, so that only the minimal number of files are transported at each update. It is possible to run an rsync server so that no shell access is needed.

If it requires more fiddling than acceptable I'll find some smart ftp client. The nice thing about rsync is that it does not require housekeeping to keep track of what files are where - it generates a new list each time. This way it is easy to keep your work synchronized over multiple machines.
