MySQL backup, cant find where to load them

maia
hi!

i have a backup of my previous site in tar.gz extension.

however, i found that the files inside are not in .sql but in separate folders for each database and table, with .frm, .MYD, and .MYI extensions.

i don't know where to upload them or how. maybe they have to be uploaded directly to the sql database but i don't have an access to that.

please tell me what to do

Don't unzip them!

Don't untar them!

Okay. Firstly, how big is the file?

If it's above 10mb use a big dump.

Go into phpmyadmin (directadmin --> mysql databases), login. Then go to the database (left, 1st frame, select from dropdown list). Then at the 2nd frame, go click on "sql" (top of 2nd frame).

Then at the button there's an option for you to upload the .tar.gz
maia
i already did that, but it's not recognized.

i guess this method only recognizes gzipped files that are in the format .sql

mine are grouped like this when unzipped:

Quote:

smf (folder)
------ mkp_blocks.frm
------ mkp_blocks.MYD
------ mkp_blocks.MYI
------ mkp_blog.frm
------ mkp_blog.MYD
------ mkp_blog.MYI

and so on....

Don't unzip them! You aren't supposed to do that.

Re-tar them back!
maia
i have the original tar+gzip file. it still wont work when i try to upload it
n0obie4life
Do you still have your old webhost?

If so, go into phpmyadmin, go do a .sql TEXT FILE backup. Not .tar.gz or whatever.
maia
unfortunately, no, the old webhost is gone
n0obie4life
Then do you still have the

.tar.gz version of the SQL Backup?

If so, go to phpmyadmin, then SQL, then just load the tar.gz there!

If it's bigger than 10mb, use the bigdump like I suggested above.

Just ignore the .frm & whatever files in the tar.gz!
maia
i already did, but it doesn't work

i always get this:

Quote:
Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 8388608 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 1 bytes) in /var/www/html/phpMyAdmin-2.6.4-pl1/libraries/read_dump.lib.php on line 173

my file is only 865 kb

by the way, where do i upload the bigdump php file?

Just to clear this up, the .frm, .MYD, and .MYI files is the actual data as it's stored on the server. You won't be able to restore that to FriHost...

But, there's one thing you can do: send the files to me and I'll use my testing server to convert them into a .sql file for you. My email address is dansoft [--at--] dansoftaustralia.net. I promise you that I'll delete all your data from my computer as soon as this is done.

If you don't feel comfortable doing that, you'll need to set up your own MySQL and Apache servers and manually import it yourself.

Read the instructions for the bigdump.php file Wink.

You have to upload it to public_html, it'll give a page..
maia
thanks Dan!

i already emailed you the file
