30Gb of e-mail space. Insane

For anyone requiring an insane amount of email store, 30gigs.com is now offering 30GB email accounts. The service is currently in beta testing, and just like when Google rolled out Gmail Beta, an invite is required for registration. 30Gigs.com started off with the idea of creating a "All in one" site for the webmaster and avid computer users. Combining personal file storage, GD2 signatures and anonymous email all in one service, which would be free. Our main goal is to increase our space even further, to 50 gigs, or maybe 100 as time goes on. 30Gigs.com is still in a very heavy beta, and if you are a member, please help us to make it the best mail server there is. We will be offering a section for personal file storage (up to 30 gigs) and a GD2 signature maker to keep your email safe from spam robots.

It will be interesting if this service survives past a few weeks, not to mention several people are already pointing out that the privacy policy and terms of service are rather vague at best.

However, many users here at Neowin are wary of the service, it's privacy policy and terms of service. One user at Neowin, Qumahlin, called the service "shady" and stated "the ToS/Eula is amazingly short". The service is currently in beta and mimicking Google's GMail service it requires an invite to gain access to the service. Like other services that have popped up on the internet promising gigs worth of email we don't expect it to last longer than a few months so grab an invite whilst you can.

Talk about Overkill! i bet they won't last till Next year, 1GB Space is great, but unless Users Clone their Hard Disks into their Mailbox, 30GB is foremost overkill, it's also interesting to see wether, you would have an Attachment cap, considering there offering 30GB of space, why Cap the attachment size? Very Happy if you're interested, you can sign up At 30Gigs.com

Why not?

Wow... Who needs 30 gb of mail? I got 40 gb on my laptop here! I think 1gb is huge already; let alone 30!

Just a publicity stunt to get members. Exclamation Smile

It seems like an interesting idea, even though it's probably just a marketing gimmick to get new signups. Does anyone know if there is a way to clone/copy your hard drive via email, making this service maybe a little more enticing. As far as I know there aren't any.

I think, they are just making us fool. When I tried to make a free email account on www.30gigs.com, they told me that you can get email account on 30gigs.com only by invitations. But, I do know think, any of us have 30.gigs.com account. have you?
n0obie4life
I was told..

30gigs.com is a scam.

30gigs.com doesn't give you 30 gig space. Only 600mb.

We do not need more space, but we need more features. I have not seen any email account having more features than Gmail. I wiil like to check the features of 30gigs myself.

Please send me 30gigs invitation, if any of you have. I will send FRIH$ 5 to that person, who is first to send it. To be sure, that I have got the invitation or not, send my private messege before sending the invitation.
Thanks.

I think, I will get the invitation until 15th December. So, please do not send invitation of 30gigs after 15th December. Cool

Nobody needs, at the moment, 30gigs, and if there is a Uploadlimit than it is quite stupid to use it at all,if it is not as good as Gmail !!
Ressurrector
30 gigs eh?? Sounds like one of my old spammed hotmail boxes left for a month unattended. LOL
VincentBlack
Yeah, I'm used to coming back to my Yahoo email bulk folder after a few months to find like eighteen thousand emails, its an incredible amount, and I still dont think it even comes close to filling up 1GB. Anyway, lucky for me the bulk folder doesnt effect the amount of storage I get.
SamiTheBerber
Name is lame and also space. I stay in GMail Very Happy

I've gotta check out GMail if everyone thinks its so great, I've never used it before.

Everyone will prefer GMAIL because there is a big name and brian behind it. That is GOOGLE. I ll go with anything that has google behind it.

30gigs would be handy for anyone who needs to email large files such as drawings or lots of high pixel photos. I worked at this one engineering company. The boss wanted to look at a HUGE section drawing of a whole process while he was in Florida. So, this one fellow in the company sent is UN ZIPED. Gee???? It didn't go right away. SEND..... SEND....... SEND.......

Hey, horseatingweeds. The e-mails not working.....

So I go through the normal procedures to diagnose the problem. Two or three hours later I’m on the phone with SBC having some guy unload our completely filled e-mail server space. If I was told what they where up too….. Always interrogate the operator before you take apart the machine.

Is there anyone who even uses the 1GB (now ~2.6GB) that Gmail offers (not including spam, I mean email correspondances etc)?
vignesh_natraj
No ordinary individual will receive mail for nearly 30 GB.They can sign up
to show off to their clans and friends.I think it is not necessary.
acamas
Im using hotmail still i think the 200megabytes is great enough. I remember the days when it only used to be like 2 mb not even that. Well i say anyone who wants alot of space might aswell use it. I might sign up when i have gotton my site so i can answer the emails i get... but still i wont get that much. :O....
Slowhand
Well, I dont think people need 30 GB! It's so much, if you want you can store your entire music collection on it. I think 2 GB is enough, and cleaning up your inbox is always good Smile
NobodiesHero
30 GB is a little too much. It only makes sense if people start sending video messages by email. I mean, who in his right mind would get let alone read enough text messages to fill 30 GB?
Not me in any case. I have a lot of other stuff to do as well.

But if you have a 30 GB account, enjoy it and tell me when you run out of space. Wink
macadamia
30 gigs? Seriously, who needs that? I guess only megalomaniacs... I mean, I have like 2 Gmail acconts, and one Yahoo, and to be honest, I use only about 120 megs of space on each one.
After all, it's just a weapon to gain publicity... I mean, no one could possibly need that much space for e-mails. Its like when you ask for one knife, and you get 5,000 knives. You'll use only one. The rest is just a plain show off. Rolling Eyes
wowz
I can see this actually having a use and being very useful to a lot of people... Like business types and stuff maintly, but also people who want to do some sort of piracy thing where they main you the item instead of you downloading it.
It's also great for newsgroups.. especially ones with stuff other than news.
But it's a little ridiculous I admit. I mean, what kind of freaks have enough to give 30gb to every random Joe on the net? Most won't use it, admittedly, but what if even 10,000 did? Ummm, broken servers, complaining subscribers, problems array every which way!
Oh my.
silentpark
who uses 2 gigs of space for the mails?

oh by the way... there are many mail isp's who have more features than gmail/ or good feateres gmail doesn't have...

many other mail services offers orginzing tools for example gmail doesn't offers (up to now)

also gmail got many new features in the last weeks... finaly the rss feed for everyone who is using the AE translation of gmail.. or the auto response (ok thats crappy at te moment..^^)

well think about these thinks..
riyadh
who needs a 30GB mail account when u can't even make use of the 2GB+ tht gmail offers. and the company who offers such an email account has to spend more money than microsoft Very Happy
redbomber
30 Gig. OMG. I don't think i could ever use that up in my llifetime even if i kept every single e-mail. I don't know how the company can afford such large web space.
Chords.of.Life
if they're going to give anyone 20 gigs (which i agree is far far overkill) then they should make a point of letting the users have unlimited attachment sizes and way faster upload speed.

i use gmail and every time i want to upload a picture or two as an attachment it takes way longer than it should.

and by the way... email is mainly for text. its almost impossible to have 30 gigs of relevent text.
hrtorrent
This is not realy 30GB. This is probably markenting trick. Who will ever have 30GB of e-mails? I think normal user will never use more than 1GB for e-mails.

Is there attachement file limitation size, like other over 1gb mail providers?
So, you can attach file bigger then few MB and have so huge mailbox, this is realy stupid.
horseatingweeds
I just thought of this. If you have a 30gig mail server you could weponise it. You could prepare a huge file and send it to someone and clog it up. It would also prevent someone from doing the same you you....unless they have 40gigs.
Animal
30Gigs is actually only ~600Mb as stated earlier, but I found a site that's giving out free invitations if you're interested:

http://www.jeffwu.net/?p=96
horseatingweeds
Your right Animal....

Now that I can be implicated I better not sign up.....
igor123d
There is no way anyone needs this much space. If one were to send movies over e-mail, then even after 20 movies there would be space left. This is simply more than required at this point.
leonk
of course thats insane, most people delete old male, i have gmail (2gb) and i dont think that will ever be full
miztiik
guys if you think 30gigs is insane

have a look at here

www.mailglobal.net

these guys say they giveout 1 terrabytefor email service
SgtGarcia
Gmail keeps growing in size. Mail space is over 2,5 GB allowed at this moment. I don't think it really matters if your mailbox is 2,5 or 30 gigs. The user interface is more important. Gmail works easy and fast, so 30 gigs isn't a reason for me to stop using gmail. Gmail is perfect for normal mail usage. Conversations make it a lot easier to keep track of mail discussions and the lack of graphical nonsense makes is so fast to use.
Dread Lord Chaos
Yahoo gives you a cool 1 Gig of memory and pp% of it is on built up junk mail Razz a Terrabyte, 30 gigs, or 1 gig doesn't make much of a difference....Very hard to use it all. You would actually have to TRY to get it all used up. As said earlier, i would rather stick to an easy and attractive user interface.
Pikokola
Wow.. 30gigs.... eh 30 gigs...??? not interested Smile

I prefer using Gmail, 2Gigs is more than enough for e-mail, maybe next time I need more, just makes the new one Smile)
snjripp
30 gigs is insane.
potterrpg
cool, 30gb.

I wonder how much people will actually manage to keep that. Say they bought a dedicated server (which they most probably have) then after about 10 account signups the space would be full. The upkeep costs would proboably cost a fortune and they are offering it for free.

I have a gmail account and I am fine with just 2 and a half gig. And you can trust google because they can afford the dedicate servers, they're google. But just giving 30 gig in one go is pushing it a little. Afterwards they will shut the site down. A couple of months! I will be surprises if it lasted a month.

But anyway, it would be nice to have 30 gig of storage on the go. I magine all the stuff you could store. Now that is cool. But if I did manage to get an account I wouldn't rely on that for my files because afterwards the site will (definitely) close down and all my files will go down the drain.
mengshi200
It sounds like good, actually, hope turn to reality in the future.
charliehk
Firstly, I don't believe that such an offer exists. Imagine there are 1000 persons applying for the service, so how much hard disks should be bought?

Secondly, it is impossible to attach a large document without trouble via Internet.

Even if this was true, I would wait until it is proved that the site could survive.
tordana
I find that the 2.5GB given by gmail works just fine for me, and I'm not inclined to go for 30. I can't see why anyone would need that much anyway: I only have about 2% of my gmail space filled up.
charliehk
If GMail Drive shell extension is installed for storing files using Gmail, then 2.5G is just too small!
Splenge
so which email provider lets you send the biggest attachments and how big is that because at about 2mb an email you'll need 15,000 emails to fill the 30GB mailbox. If you have that many why dont you delete a few?
sunrise
I read on the blog of one of the members here ( babumuchala ) that this site could be a scam-type thing. I'm not sure of the authencity, but it could be possible.
hac
I have 30Gigs id and guess what they are planning to upgrade to 560 GB free inbox and free file backup supprt. They have an attatchment size limit of 200 MB. That's a lot if you ask me. But one cantell, their pages are crammed with ads mostly text ads. I have seven invitations but I didn't get my account through invitation. I was redirected to a sign up page when I clicked on one of their ads in another site.
komunikaze
30 gigs? what need for the email storage, but i trying to get the email member, and now i have that. my comment is....it good for big company who have too many many costumer, thats how make good relation constinuesly, with email.
and i still hae 7 invite email. who one to be invvite
Dread Lord Chaos
Has anyone actually tried this service yet?
root
I just made an account, but when I try to log in to my email, it just keeps loading and loading and loading... I'm gonna say it's a scam until I can get into my inbox
Danny666
I have "only" 2GB a its lot for ma i have a 1% of place in e-mail
jeffsolodky
Why would somebody need 30GB? I mean, I get ALOT of spam, but 30GB to fill up is ridiculous. I don't even think the postal service has that much mail.
