KHO
install a forum on your site? l got the phpBB files, and now what, do l just drop them in, cause that seems like it wouldn't work Neutral

*please bear with me, l'm new to this whole "server that works" thing, my last server for a website was freewebs, and this is waay different, but much better.*

Drop them in

CHMOD config.php to 777
CHMOD images/avatars to 777

Go to

http://<domain>/install/install.php

Create a mySQL Database, remember the details (that's through Directadmin).

Then fill in the details on the install page.

Then you are done.

Go into FTP

Delete install & contrib
CHMOD config.php to 644
KHO
Neutral how do l install mySQL?
l found the thing, but it wants me to upload??? So does that mean l have to install something on my computer? and if so do l need it later, or can l do it at school where they have fast internet, then just use it online or something?
KHO
ok, l found a guide and l think l got this, but what the heck is CHMOD?? Does that mean just to change the permissions of those files/folders to 777? If so, l got this.
Neutral
except that l hit install and all this script came up, and l don't know what to do now! *enters feetle position*
n0obie4life
Yes. You have to change the permissions.
KHO
ok, after that what do l do??? l hit the install thing in the install folder and a big ol mess of code got thrown at me that made no sense Neutral help memplz Neutral
n0obie4life
You have to go to

http://<domain>.net/install/install.php through your BROSWER. Not Directadmin's FileManager.
KHO
http://kho.frih.net/boards/install/install.php
like that right? (Boards is where l installed the phpBB boards) l go to that page and get an error saying that the server can not find the requested page. what am l doing wrong??? the permissions are set to 644 for the .php file, and 755 for the install folder as well as the whole boards folder. So what am l doing wrong????

Going to http://kho.frih.net/boards/ also gives a 'File Not Found' error. Are you sure the folder is called 'boards' and is in your public_html folder? Remember that Linux (operating system the server uses) is case-sensitive, so 'boards' isn't the same as 'Boards'.
KHO
Neutral oh....ya, its a caps. Neutral so...ya Neutral but will that matter for my users? like will they have to use a caps if l don't change it?
n0obie4life
Yes. So just rename the folder.

BTW

http://kho.frih.net/boards/ works for me now Wink
