I like Greenday But too many people trashing them. Specially after American Idiot. When they first came out Nirvana was too big a hurdle for them but they have really grown. Yet I'd say I like the old Greenday songs better.

Loved the first couple of albums, then the rest started to sound weak. American Idiot renewed my faith in them though. Jesus of Suburbia is a great tune. Its gotta be the first progressive punk song in a while eh?

DUDE - don't let a band like Green Day ruin punk for you... they're emo.
Try the Dropkick Murphy's, goldfinger, reel big fish, electric six, or the lving end.... (don't know why them but the were the first four to come out).

refer to my above posts and try those four bands. the songs you've listed really aren't all that fantastic.
I HATE Greenday. I hate punk, emo, goth, whatever. Those little wannabee wrist-slitters should take time out and try to make another riff instead of just using the same one for each song.

They are one of the only bands that I like that are on the radio. I have liked them ever since early highschool. a little before dookie came out. I grew up with them. I couldn't just stop liking them just because other people like them now. They were a big part of my life when i was growning up, and they introduced me to a music style i wouldn't have listened to before. I don't care if they are considered "punk" now or not. They play good music regardless.
I like Jesus Of Surburbia, besides that I like AC/DC better and The Who, The Guess Who, The Rolling Stone all that good stuff.

i dun listen to them so much... probably cos' i don't own any of their cds... but i remember nearly a decade back when i was like 12... and 'when i come around' mtv was blasting on the TV all the time... boopy tune. i wouldn't compare them to grunge rock (seattle sound) that Nirvana was on... they're totally 2 different spectrums to begin with. mainstream or not... i guess it's simply moving on? i couldn't see them cutting it otherwise, they've never started on the alt track to begin with. (IMO)

I saw them live in concert. At first, I only went because my guitarist really loves them so I thought I'd tag. There was heaps of talk after the release of American Idiot about the band being to comercialised, less about music and more about money. But in actuallity, the album is really good. Back to the concert, it was brilliant. Billy Joe has improved so much since the early stuff. I was a little disappointed at some of the crowd for not knowing what Basket Case was. The highlight for the whole concert was either Jesus of Suburbia, during Dearly Beloved...or maybe "are we the waiting", a beautiful beautiful song. Also, St. Jimmy. But really, most people don't know these songs...only American Idiot and all the other ones that were released on the radio, which is a shame because as I said before, It's a great album. Well written an thoughtfully constructed.

green day was great when there new album was dookie and i also liked them when they have maked there new album warning but there newest album green day isn`t good anymore. it`s comerce!! they wanted to make much money with them, and if you listen to holiday and secondly to bryan adams sommer of 96 you will see that the melodie is the same!!! but i like that they don`t like bush, i also don`t like him,.....

greenday has some good music out. however, it is overplayed on the radio and i have never found their vocals as appealing as other groups.

greenday formed in 1989, punk first formed in the 60's, before becoming huge in the late 70's (i.e. Machine Gun Ettiquette - best punk album ever - was released in 79 by the Damned).
No offence, but anyone who'd seriously label Greenday as THE original punk band would have to totally clueless about punk music. (There's alot more on that I could say, but I'll bite my tongue).

Not to offend anyone, but I think they suck. They used to be alright, but now, they're sellouts. The quality of the music is disentegrated and the singer is monotone. Plus, they sold out.
I'm not too fond of them, but they are really good live. I went to a concert of theirs back in September with my boyfriend and a friend of ours. They were good.

I think they are alright, but I do think they are missing the edge the Sex Pistols had for example. Pop- Punk!!

I only started listening to Green Day around the time American Idiot came out. When I first heard songs like Holiday, Boulevard of Broken Dreams, and Wake Me Up When September Ends, I was hooked instantly.
Now, after listening to some of their older [and better] work like Dookie and Nimrod, the new stuff doesn't appeal to me as much. I don't know if its that every other person seems to love American Idiot and thats it, but I hope they release something new in the same style as their mid-90's days.

If you dont like greenday because of their new sound! you should at least give them credibility for their awesome croud perfomance at concerts!! they really know how to rock a crowd!!!
I like they very much and Dookie was one of the best's album's they recorded in my opinion...

I have loved Green Day for years and I must say that yes some of their chord progressions are really basic and even though they're punk rock a lot of their music is poppy and overplayed on mainstream radio BUT they have survive for over a decade as a band and have had consistent sales throughout all that time so they must be doing someting right.
I love their older stuff more especially the Insomniac album and FOD on the Dookie album.

Hey... I like Green Day!! It's a nice band... 16 years ago they were a punk, I like their discs 1039/Smoothed Out Slappy Hour, Kerplunk and Dookie.

No, Green Day has gone against everything that they said they were trying to do, they have completely changed the way they think and they don't admit it. I would have no problem is they admited they changed as people, but they continue to lie and say they were always this way, which isn't true.
But don't get me wrong a few of their songs are alright, their old albums were much, much better.

Greenday are an excellent band with a proven track record. Just because they get played on the radio alot doesn't change this, it just enforces it. More than anything they write great songs and their new album has many great songs but done in a very experimental fashion (not your typical song structure). I often find that as soon as a band become mainstream it seems to be 'cool' to hate them, go against the crowd. And as for their old music being better? I definitely ain't sure about that, I own every album and they are all excellent in their own right (asides from maybe 'Warning')

Good god, I can't beleive people are still having these kinds of debates over greenday. I think that every single time i've ever logged on to frihost, since the beginning of time there has always been a crapload of people divided on this greenday issue. I saw them at Milton Keynes bowl last year. It was great, the pyrotechnics were fantatsic. It all worked a treat, the lighting was great and it was a good hot summers day. But the older less serious stuff is defiently better than the new stuff, like: longview, basket case, when i come around, 86 stuff like that.
However my all time favourite band is The Offspring. I have liked them for many years, and its what got me into music. They have been going for 22 years now, and I love em. I only seen them once though, but it was amazing. They actually influnced a lot of todays rock bands.

Everyone says that Green Day are sellouts...well I guess they are, but their concerts are absolutely insane. I've been a fan for a while now, but I finally went to their concert on the American Idiot tour. That was the best show I have ever seen, they really know what they are doing. American Idiot is a very solid record that you can listen to all the way through. If you think about it, all of their records are like that!

When it comes to Greenday I find that I have to opt out for neutral. Up until a few years ago I didn't even know them, and when I found out who they were I thought that they were okay. Fast foward to the last day of school this current year, I found a mixed cd of their songs on the ground, picked it up and listened to it. Some of the songs were good, others pointless. So to answer the questions. I don't dislike them, but I wouldn't personally get their music.

I liked greenday when they didnt turn Emo and jumped on that bandwagon. But one of my favorit songs was "when I come around". That song was on the radio when I was about like 3 or 4 years old and probably one of the first songs that I heard when i was first introduced to music.

I don't like Green Day. However, they do have a few good songs, such as "Basket Case", "Minority", and "Welcome to Paradise"...And of course, "Longview"...Their new album is the pinnacle of awful though
i think greenday is ok, despite of what most people think. I think the whole "anti-greenday" thing is just a direct result of the hype they're getting. anyway, i'm not that crazy about it.

I love Green Day...have all their albums and love their direction of late. American Idiot was an amazing album. The most punk thing a band can do is change, try new things. I mean, these guys aren't kids anymore. They've grown up and apparently, are like the big brothers to newer bands like My Chemical Romance. They have influenced an entire new genres in the past few years. Gotta love that.

Nope, I really don't gotta love anything about Greenday. And I don't. I utterly despise them. On my list of alltime worst bands in the world, Greenday most definitely tops it. I can't possibly stress how much I hate them. But of course, thats just my opinion...

You mean they got older? What's so wrong with getting older, more mature, having different priorities? I get so tired of hearing how Green Day's sold out or whatever. One, if you're an actual fan of them from their early stuff to now, you see the natural progression of their music. Artists ALWAYS try to be a little different. The only Green Day album that went back was Insomanic and it was probably their poorest. Nimrod and Warning really tried new things that they didn't try before.
Fact is...most people who talk about Green Day don't really know their music before Dookie came out. Kerplunk remains one of the best albums I've ever heard. "Christie Road" and "No One Knows" are classic.
I actually like their new stuff. Maybe because I'm political by nature, but I enjoy watching bands mature. Blink 182 went through it before their breakup. Most bands find a new calling. Then, bands like Bush get worse. Green Day's not a one-trick pony. They have a lot of talent and are attempting to become better with every album. They didn't sell out. They just found new things to speak about. Everyone should get off their music elitist high horse and if not appreciate what they've done, cut them some slack.

Ive got most of the greenday albums and i wouldnt say i have a favourite album or song. I saw them in concert last year at christmas which was absolutely awesome, it was so packed and they were performing for ages it was great.
I use to, but now I don't. I listen to better music now these days, music that is not crappy like theres is now, and there live performances suck butt also.
My girlfriend loves them, and I love their old stuff, but the suck nowadays.

They're okay, but everyone acts like their the best thing since sliced bread, which just turns me off them. They're good but there's no amazing skill in their playing or song writing that keeps bringing me back.
