mfc42.dll error

n0obie4life
First off, I'm using a

WINDOWS ME

Don't tell me to upgrade to XP or use linux. If you really want to do that, send me a LEGAL copy of Windows XP, I won't mind.

Anyway, I start up my favourite text editor. Then now it gives me that error.

Ctrl+D shows me this

Code:

Microsoft's search KB didn't give me anything useful Sad

And I'm sure I don't have that xupiter thing.

I tried to replace the DLL. It doesn't work either.

I can use Internet Explorer perfectly.

FYI, my favourite editor is Crimson Editor.

So yeah, help would be useful Razz
CrimsonStrange
...... but just in case .......

Did you try searching the Crimson Editor forum for MFC42.dll, or looking through the page for known bugs?

Best of luck, man. Wink

I did try to read through both pages, but they won't work Sad

A note at the bottom of the MS' KB

WINDOWS ME?!?!!?!?!? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!! Maybe you should consider Windows 98 or something. I'm suprised you can actually run programs on your computer!

Anyway, someone was having this problem with Paint Shop Pro. Maybe this will help: http://forums.computing.co.uk/thread.jsp?forum=13&thread=21742

Your .DLL file is outdated.

Download this from Microsoft:
http://download.microsoft.com/download/vc60pro/update/1/w9xnt4/en-us/vc6redistsetup_enu.exe

Install it, and what do you know...it works! Razz

@pccustoms

That file doesn't work for WINME.

@dan751

yes, I can run stuff on a WINME Razz

I'm going to try your suggestion as a last resort. I don't like to play with system files that much..

And, if I do say that I have visual basic 6 installed on the WINME..will that be of any difference?
SunburnedCactus
I actually had that very same setup on my old pc, Win ME and VB6. Needless to say the problems just mounted up and up, including dll errors such as the one you've mentioned. It was a rare treat indeed when it ran for hours without crashing.

The moral of the story. Erm... upgrade, dammit!
n0obie4life
Sunburn, I wouldn't mind if someone gave me a FREE AND LEGAL copy of Windows XP
