I want to know what is the best Free FTP client around.
Please give your comments. Which is fastest, secure and stable.
*Core FTP
*Filezilla
*SmartFtp
*Frontpage (included because I have one)
*Windows XP built-in FTP
If you have other options, feel free to suggest.
Windows XP built in FTP.
Why? MS-DOS is cool to play with esp if it's Microsoft made.
No really, I prefer that.
Filezilla is better..
It is free n very easy to control it
Filezilla is good because you can just unpack in and put it on a USB-stick and take it with you but my choice at home still is CuteFTP, based on speed.
i was really, really very dissapointed by filezilla when i tried it out. Not only that the speed is pretty slow, but also has trouble uploadin multiple files and folders..i`m sticking to cute ftp pro version.
I am using Ws_ftp pro and it is good for me....
But most of my frens say filezilla is good and much more faster....
cool, I now know more ranges for ftp now, I'm gonna try them out, thanks
but I wish it would just be this simple, log into ftp via and internet and get to my bin, but it only work at home instead of everywhere, one fix ip add. no fair
i just use the FTPfeature of my totalcommander, works good for me
I use WS_FTP because i get it free from my school, but I think they have a free edition, i'm not sure. Anyways it seems fine and does whatever i need it to.
i always use Smart FTP or Ws_FTP.
Ws_FTP is good and simple if you can find the free edition of it.
other wise go for smart FTP its nice and user friendly.
I think i'll try ws_ftp and cuteftp. How about coreftp? What can you say about it?
What. No one uses MS-DOS FTP?
MS-DOS ftp, is it secured and safe? Please explain, maybe it's a better choice.
It's a Microsoft product. So, it depends on what you think about them.
Go to Start --> Run
Type ftp.frihost.net
Just check this tutorial i made

You need to have a good knowledge of MSDOS first.
I definitely prefer WS_FTP and CuteFTP. Especially those old versions, which are very small and easy to use. As to the later version, I don't really like the complexity. The basic functions are enough in most cases.
BulletProof FTP is my choice.

Low resource usage, very stable, always used to update my website here
I prefered flashfxp as ftp client software....
It has full function of ftp .....
I like it very much....
SmartFtp
i prefer SmartFtp
it is the best one i have ever tried
SmartFTP is my personal choice considering its extremely user friendly interface. Besides its free for personal use
WS_FTP Pro is good but free edition is not so good and i dont want to spend money buying the pro one.
I say
Ws_FTP pro is a very good one
and Filezilla is also a good FTP Manager
I personally like Core FTP. It's really easy to learn and has full ftp functionality.
Sometimes I'll use the windows built in FTP.
well, I use Total Commander to connect to ftp's, it's fast and it's easy to use
cute ftp dose the work for me I like it and its good and stable ..
I use WS_FTP.
It's really lite and works good.
I like very much this concept.
The only problem is I have to disable Windows XP Firewall to work with the client. No matter what I do to allow the application to pass thru the firewall, I can't connect nowhere when the damn firewall is enabled.
And I got a huge bug (which I've never seen in any condition) that gave a BSOD (blue screen of death) while uploading a 2GB file to a server.
If you're a Firefox user, you should check out FireFTP - this works as an extension. It's tiny and quite simple, but it does the job as far as uploading sites goes. Sure, there are more fully-featured FTP clients out there, but this one's my favourite.
Installed. Let's see how it will behave.
I use ws_ftp never used anything else because i have never had any problems with it.

Hi all!
I think that the best FTP client must have following properties:
- User interface is very nice and using easily.
- Support higher speed, compess data when transfering.
- Design more attractive, many functions relating to system properties.
- Manage many profiles for some server (ftp server).
- Support many protocols for FTP service.
Windows XP built-in FTP: we use command line mode to access to FTP server. It's very boring to use, but in case of necessary it's very useful such as we log on remote system by command line, so we can not use window-based programs! I think we should use this kind of program - command line.
I found that WS_FTP Pro is very good! It's very cool!
Give more information, please! Thanks!
l use Total Commander, not free, but it does more than just FTP, it is a great filemanager!! It gives tabs, and two windows, this makes copying and moving files easier then ever, and you can set up a default editor, and just hit f4 to edit any document. lt is always saving me time, and has easily paid for itself.

yeah i like it too....but when i m in office i use....
http://www.net2ftp.com/index.php
a web based ftp client...god one...too
I used flashfxp but it keept on disconnecting when there was scripts on a file in the server side.
I moved to Filezilla and it works fine.
I don't know if it's a failure of flashftp or just something was wrong on my system, but it was quite an annoying situation and Filezilla could cope with it.
i use SmartFTP, it's user friendly and it's got Global Queue which features auto-reconnect and resume of broken transfers and it has been my choice since the beginning and i'm very happy with it.
I've tried a few, but I like smart ftp the best.
I use Cute FTP Pro 7... did not try any other ftp program.
I use FileZilla. its free... but could be better
I also use Filezilla and highly reccomend it, I haven't had any problems since i've had it, it's opsource and gets updated quite often.
Why don't you download all of them and try them yourself, use which one is based on your personal preference.
