Thanks, I just want to learn it now.
yeah im still trying to figure it out as well i have done all the settings on that site but it still wont work
well this is the common procedure for all routers :
1. open the router config page thru your browser (type the router ip)
2. logon using username admin and the password(by default the password is set to "password" or "1234")
3. go to port forwarding and open port 8080 (you have to specify tcp/udp)
4. save and reboot router
although this may differ for your modem, this is the most common procedure
thanks what do we set the tcp/udp i can select TCP or UDP and TCP/UDP which ones of those do i select

Depends on the router - most use TCP
what do they mean? whats the difference

TCP and UDP are different protocols at the network layer. Basically, TCP is connection-oriented, while UDP is connectionless. UDP is used when reliability isn't an issue.
Most programs, such as web browsers, FTP clients, IRC, MSN, etc. use TCP. For programs where speed is better than reliability, UDP is used (voice conferencing, streaming media)
yes thats where i got the info off on how to do it but it seems not to work still
have you already configured a static ip for your computer? I mean, have you manually configured IP address?
have you restarted your router?
what do you do to test that port?
do you have any firewalls that could be blocking your port?
umm i have no idea if i have a firewall and yes i have restarted the router
Ok, let's try this. Turn off any anti-virus softwares that you have and test your port's functionality. If it worked, try configuring your anti-virus to allow that port.
Or else, maybe your ISP has blocked that port. Try contacting your ISP about that issue. You could use other ports.
What program do you intend to use with that port?
i want to use it for shoutcast (www.shoutcast.com) and i emailed my ISP today and they said they dont block ports. ok ill try turning everything off
still wont work ive tried on port 8000 and 8080 there is a firewall somewhere maybe the router has a firewall but i dont no how to turn it off
always explore your router setting.
if you are using wireless. check your port forwarding is to your correct ip.
so for example, even if you initate forwarding, and you forward to 192.168.1.3.. that's wrong. haha
and ya. firewall, you can turn it off. so check the manufacture website for detail.
Last Resort. COmplain. !!!!
ok ive worked it out now i went on the manufactures site and its working now
