Last bit of HTML help please

Mark999111
hey

Again i need help with this (i knew using tables was a bad idea Evil or Very Mad )

anyways heres a sample page of the site im making (about chavs hehe)

http://chav.sitesled.com/homepagev2

Notice that the left side of the table has a link in it; 'homepage'

see the way its centered? Thats really annoying. How can i make it be at the top if you know what i mean. When i make longer pages its still centered vertically and the links are half way down the page.

Heres my script if you need to have a look:

Code:
<html>
<head>

<title>::Chavs Must Die::</title>
</head>
<body>
<p>
<center>
    <img src="http://chav.sitesled.com/banner.jpg">
</center>
</p>
<table>
<table width="542" border="1" bordercolor="#FF0000" align="center">
    <td width="100"><center>

        <a href="file://Homepage.html"><font color="#FF0000">Homepage</font></a>
</center>
   </td>
    <td width="536">
   <center>
        <font color="#FF0000"><b>If you've visited this site before you will probably
        notice that it looks crapper than it used to. Im coding the HTML myself
        so I'm just getting to grips with it and there's nothing you can do about
        it</b></font>
      </center>
      <center><img src="http://chav.sitesled.com/chav2.jpg" width="298" height="255"></center>
</td>

</table>
</body>
</html>
Naif
Hi. Thats quite simple. Replace

Code:

<td width="100"><center>
<a href="file://Homepage.html"><font color="#FF0000">Homepage</font></a></center>
</td>

with

Code:

<td width="100" valign="top" align="center">
<a href="file://Homepage.html"><font color="#FF0000">Homepage</font></a>
</td>

Notice I added valign="top". valign is an abrev. for vertical alignment. Valid options are, top, middle, bottom. And I replaced the <center> tag too. It has been depreciated. Instead, to center align the contents, I added align="center" inside the <td>.

I see a couple problems. First you have two <table> tags. Second you don't have a <tr> tag. when you make a table you should always use the <tr> tag. The previous suggestions may work, but if they don't, try this:

Make sure you get rid of the extra <table> tag.

Code:
<table width="542" border="1" bordercolor="#FF0000" align="center">
<tr valign="top">
   <td width="100"><center>
        <a href="file://Homepage.html"><font color="#FF0000">Homepage</font></a>
</center>
   </td>
    <td width="536">
   <center>
        <font color="#FF0000"><b>If you've visited this site before you will probably
        notice that it looks crapper than it used to. Im coding the HTML myself
        so I'm just getting to grips with it and there's nothing you can do about
        it</b></font>
      </center>
      <center><img src="http://chav.sitesled.com/chav2.jpg" width="298" height="255"></center>
</td>
</tr>
</table>
