Unfortunately, you're wrong.

Internet explorer can handle PNG support, if the page adds the CSS DirectX filter to show them.

That's some good previews. However alot of browser versions wouldn't support such image manipulation and movement for that matter. And i would doubt the alpha properties of PNG. Very nice display but might not be the most practical technique.
