Water Turbines in Water Pipes

BigGeek
Not too long ago I posted this on my Facebook page. I thought that the invention is a particularly smart idea in that it takes advantage of our existing infrastructure and the water we already pump through pipes to feed our cities. Cost to drive the turbines is already absorbed by the need to pump water through the pipes, in short the water companies already pay for the fuel to or electricity to run the pumps, so why not use it to create electricity - it's not free, but it certainly provides an avenue to recover some of the energy spent on pumping the water!

That's both brilliant and simple. Wonder whether it has been applied anywhere yet?
