Netbeans install not recognizing existing Java on Windows 10

sailor69
I am trying to install Netbeans on my Windows 10 laptop. It keeps failing because it is not finding the existing Java installation, which I understand must be Java SE. I have successfully installed Java 6. I thought I had succeeded with Java 8 SE, but it is not being recognized.

I am looking for the latest Netbeans bundled with Java 8 SE or better (and the whole package). I thought I found one but that also failed for the same reason. My existing Java does not seem to be receiving updates.

Edit:I have been using Programmer's Notepad. However, Netbeans comes highly recommended as a means for learning Python.
