Hi

ON my phpBB forum I have Disabled Registration

IN the ACP I went to GENERAL >> ACCOUNT ACTIVATION >> Disable Registration.

But when I go View unanswered posts

I get some Posts from people who I cant find in my user list.

How do they do this...?

Did you check their register date, they may be sleeper bots who post long after they have registered?

I had the same challenge at another Forum where I'm staff and took a while to discover they were sleeper bots. Then about two years ago I started to delete all new accounts with less than one post in them. I.e. I'll wait a few days, then when it looks as though there are a great number of those sleeper bots (they're quite easy to recognize), I select accounts that have been opened over the last thirty days with less than one post in them. Then check through them first and delete the accounts. Definitely helps to eliminate bot spam.
