I am thinking of getting a computer with 8 gigs of ram. This might be the right computer to create a ram disk in.
Have you ever used a ram disk.. and what did you think of the results..
8G only? why not 16?
btw, with SSD your whole hardisk IS a RAM disk.
I'm in an auction for a computer that has only 8 gig.
The computer I have now only has 2 gig.
I can only dream of 16 gig..
with 8G how big the RAM disk can you create? 1G? 2G? for what? not even enough for swap.
to be honest, the last time i heard about RAM disk is during MS-DOS time (like 20+ years ago). when windows come out, they know how to handle those extra RAM. Come windows 7, they aggressively use up all RAM to avoid swapping.
what's the point man? you OS really that lame and refuse to use all 8G?
No real point other than just to see if I can do it. And what sort of speed increase I can get with it.
I have run puppy Linux which runs the entire OS from the RAM and it was fast.
