It's designer, Arturo Vittori, calls it "Warka" after the Warka tree or Ficus Vasta, a wild fig tree native to Ethiopia.

"Vittori estimates that this system, which collects the harvest water in a basket, can produce up to 25 gallons a day."

I saw this recently in a National Geographic episode called breakthrough: water apocalypse. What I liked most about what he did was he taught the locals how to make one themseleves. The towers themselves were made from locally available materials such as bamboo.

People in those places usually get their water from rain puddles or river and most of them get worms because of it. With these 'towers', they can get around 25 gallons of clean water per day (depending on the humidity of the place)
