Testing Router Speed

I see there are lots of different Routers. Some are very expensive.

I am a home user with 2 computers and a Chromcast. (and Phone)

As far as I know my old router is faster than my connection. So are there any reasons I should get a faster ( and more expensive) Router.

Thank you

Did you mean wireless router?
We could assume expensive routers have better transmission ability.
More wifi antennas provide better signal strength and range.

Expensive routers might have better stability.
My old router had to be restarted every week, otherwise it will not function correctly.

Sorry.. I should give more details.

Its a Wireless / Router/ Modem. Very common in New Zealand..

The WiFi range covers my living area.

Its always on and I can't rememeber the last time I rebooted it.

If your computers and mobile devices communicate by wifi,
the transmission speed is critical when you want to transfer huge files between these devices.
Otherwise, the current one is fine. I don't see any reason to buy another one.
Why you consider to buy a new one?

I used this kind of Wireless / Router/ Modem, too,
and it's a low-end D-Link product, about 50 USD.
I can't recall the actual price.
These home-use products price range from 20 USD to 300 USD.

I tried the instructions to enhance the wifi signal by point two antenna vertically and horizontally.
However, the signal is weak when the users is one floor above the router, especially for the Apple equipments,
but the wireless notebook or android phones are fine.

This wrieless router also needs reboot every 7~ 10 days, otherwise it will not connect to the Internet.

Maybe when this one is broken, I will buy a better one.
