Running LAMP Securely During Development

Possum
Hi

I want to have LAMP running on my home computer so I can test php mysql. But I don't want my computer to seen online. I believe with WAMP you have a choice to be off line

How can I do this with LAMP on Linux..

I plan top install LAMP using tasksel in ubuntu..

thank you..

I've just installed xampplite from serverpress.com. It works great offline and is very easy to manage:

Make sure you take the free version as it has everything you need. You don't need the paid version.

Thx deanhills.

Desktopserver looks good. But it looks like its for word-press users only..

Im hand writting my site form code myself. Will Desktopserver still work for me?

I am still investigating it..

Thank you..

I've been using XAMPP for ages now and you can perfectly keep your server hidden from other devices.
@dean: I'm not sure if the software you are using is a fork of XAMPP but the actual project is hosted here: https://www.apachefriends.org/index.html

one of the first post installation tasks is to secure the server and they actually give you a warning when your sites are available from other devices.

what I usually do is leave the main htdocs page alone so that it points to the XAMPP setup/config pages and I create a virtual host for each site that needs to run locally

a while ago I started coding my admin scripts ( mostly for work ) in powershell and started to play around with it and to get some experience I started with a little script to manage my virtual hosts.

EDIT: I just read that you are using linux... xampp is cross platform you you should be able to install it on any distro, the powershell thingy is another story Very Happy

Sorry - I missed this post and some of your other ones too.

The application I'm using is a fork of XAMPPLITE. For Windows users. It's specially designed for lazy guys like me. I picked up on serverpress.com from an on-line course I'm doing on WordPress. I tried it out, and it was effortless. I really expected I'd have to tune up a few things first, but this software is really great. I've got the free version of course. It can automatically load WordPress, but one can also use it for other scripts. I managed to load myBB for trying out as well.
