What is Python

ScriptHunter
And where is the best place to get started with tutorials?

I know my friend made a chat program in Python back in the days that's all i know about it.
So if someone with knowledge maybe could give me some tips and tricks that would be nice,
I don't need to learn hello world and such, i wanna go pro coder.

I have been messing around with Java, VB.NET, HTML, PHP, and probably some more over the last years so i'm well known with basic coding.

Also to get another discussion going, what are you coding on right now/what is your current project?

To find out what Python actually is the best place to get started would be python.org. They also have a nice Tutorial page to start learning the language.
You might also want to check out the "python" section in my blog here. Wink
I wrote about IPython in my blog as well; this is the ideal tool to easily try out small pieces of python code in a web browser.
A book I can recommend is Beginning Python: From Novice to Professional, Second Edition by Magnus Lie Hetland.

Hi ScriptHunter,
if you hate reading may be go to youtube and search for "python tutorial". Many tutorials just cover how to install python and first steps, but there are also tutorials about Python coding, like this one:

Also there is a nice well structured series of Python tutorial videos available here:

The best place to check is

Python is a scripting language, with capabilities of native languages.

Also Its cross platform programming language you can say.

"http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Python_%28programming_language%29" this will explain few things.

Beautiful is better than ugly
Explicit is better than implicit
Simple is better than complex
Complex is better than complicated
Readability counts

Also you may start from python.org and its documentation.

I use http://www.codeskulptor.org/.
It is an on-line editor and you can run your code easily.
There is also a nice documentation of Python.

I absolutly concur with amagard, although there are numerous resources on internet from google videos to docs, the most extensive resource is python.org.

You may want to try Programming for Everybody. It is quite fun and educational. Once you have the basic head on to http://rosettacode.org/wiki/Category:Programming_Tasks for some action. I am currently using Bottle web framework in python but most of the time I am coding for a simple inventory management software. Hope this helps.
