Learning PHP?

deca
I am sorry if this has been asked or is in the wrong place. I couldn't find it in the search.

How did you learn php? I have had a forum all summer, and I install mods blindly right now. I am curious how all of this is working.

I know HTML and some CSS right now. The code for the forum looks somewhat similar to HTML, but parts of it are totally different.

Here is what you will need to know first of all you know with html how you use.
Quote:
<html>
<head>
</head>
<body>
<!-- Comment -->
content goes here
</body>
</html>

well with php it goes like this
Quote:
<?php
// Comment looks like this
// If you make a script with php put
// Made By ### ECT
?>

Like that.
Then comes in My SLQ which is like the brother of PHP you store data in it. Its a database with tables.
Or there is flat files which you have you php code then one a seperate file called just say hits.txt which would be blank you upload that and chdom it to 777 so it can write the hits as it goes up.

There is a sticky for PHP tutorials under the "Tutorials section". The link to it is http://www.frihost.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=8719

If you have any previous knowledge of programming, you can learn PHP using its reference(which can be found at http://www.php.net) where as if you dont, then you'll have to read a tutorial or a book which assumes no prior experience with programming.

i am studying a book named " making use of php" and it is good for beginners i think. the subject is explained first then there are examples and then it gives some questions. and there is something that makes the book good: in the begining writer plans to build up a music store website then he gives all practical information about what to do or how to do. so it is good for me. one can understand how to start

If you've done a lot of modding, I would suggest looking at the PHP source code of whatever script it is. Personally I learn best by taking an existing script (beginning with a real small one), modifying things and then running it. That way you slowly discover possibilities and also syntax rules. Tutorials and books don't work for me, but may work for you of course.

As already stated there is a stickied topic in the tutorials section
http://www.frihost.com/forums/vt-8719.html

Google also has many good results for a search of php tutorials etc.
