Orientation of Bar magnet at pole

vipinagrahari
We all know that a magnet aligns itself in North-South direction.

But what will be the orientation of a Bar magnet which is suspended at the North or south pole.
1) will it stand vertically ,
2) Or it will keep on roating in horizontal plane
3) Cant say

It will align itself in the direction of the magnetic field, which is more up/down near the poles.

It depends in how you have your bar magnet physically mounted. If you take an ordinary compass, it only has a horizontal pivot. The magnet will dip downward until it rubs on the axle and can't move any more.

If you mount a magnet inside a three-axis gimbal, then it can rotate in an direction and align with the local field lines.
