Are .name domains fake?
| Quote: |
| The .name domains are not real domains. They require people to install spyware/adware in their browsers to be able to view them. So a normal internet user won't see it, unless the spyware is installed on his computer. |
Wow bondings wrote it. And when bondings says something every one listens. So I was shocked. Coz I had paid 7$ for domain name, which is a lot for me, still a student. And when I could have a .com domain name for less.
But some internet reserch told me that this is untrue.
Proof checkhttp://www.nic.name/
http://google.name/.
Can you visit these sites? Also i checked the Icann site, and it has a RFC about .name domains.http://www.icann.org/tlds/agreements/name/registry-agmt-appc-4-02jul01.htm
So I think that .name domains are real. But help me by checking any .name site. Two given above. And tell me if you can visit them. Thanks.
I'm really sorry, my mistake.
For everyone, they are valid, just with a few restrictions. (you aren't allowed to sell them and may only use it for personal usage, not commercial)
I thought you used http: //www .new.net/ to register it and never heared of a .name domain before.

I just thought I should add something: DON'T REGISTER DOMAINS WITH NEW.NET!!!! They force people to install spyware (as Bondings has said).
New.Net has been linked to causing unstability on some computers... It's even in the Microsoft Knowledge base: http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=302463
Here's some information about it: http://www.adwarereport.com/mt/archives/000030.html
