404 Not Found error when file viewed without login

boinsterman
I think this is due to some update problem on Frihost. When I delete the ":2222/CMD_FILE_MANAGER/domains/worldthinker.frihost.org/public_html" from an view page url as implemented in the second column in File Manager, such as

http://www.frihost.org:2222/CMD_FILE_MANAGER/domains/worldthinker.frihost.org/public_html/phptest.php

I get a 404 Not Found error, such as at

http://www.frihost.org/phptest.php.

The same is true for several other pages in my account, in fact every file I have tested so far, such as

http://www.frihost.org:2222/CMD_FILE_MANAGER/domains/worldthinker.frihost.org/public_html/SGF/my_decrees2.html
vs.
http://www.frihost.org/SGF/my_decrees2.html.

The above files have 644 permissions. One with 755 permissions (and the same error) is my 404 error page at

http://www.frihost.org:2222/CMD_FILE_MANAGER/domains/worldthinker.frihost.org/public_html/404.shtml
vs.
http://www.frihost.org/404.shtml.

The browser I am using--Firefox 26.0 for Windows XP--removes the "http://" from the url data field shown at the top (drawing a blank on what that is called), but it reappears when I copy and paste the url to this textarea.

Thanks,
Boinsterman

Your site is on the worldthinker.frihost.org subdomain.

http://worldthinker.frihost.org/phptest.php

Maybe I really was born in a barn Embarassed

Seriously, though I just copied and pasted the url from the url bar. At any rate, it seems to fine, now.

Thanks, Peterssidan. I did catch it just before I saw your response.

I seem to remember that the second-column link to the file would be

http://worldthinker.frihost.org:2222/CMD_FILE_MANAGER/domains/worldthinker.frihost.org/public_html/phptest.php

rather than

http://www.frihost.org:2222/CMD_FILE_MANAGER/domains/worldthinker.frihost.org/public_html/phptest.php

Either way, http://worldthinker.frihost.org/phptest.php is still correct, but now I need to delete two sections of text from the url rather than one. I seem to remember only having to delete one section before.

Oh, well. I can deal with it. But I think another column or link should be added to each row in File Manager, if security is not an issue, with the link the public sees.

You can use http://worldthinker.frihost.org:2222 if you prefer.

I realized last night that I had been logging on via www.frihost.org:2222 rather than [url]worldthinker.frihost.org:2222[/url] and this was the critical difference. The latter is what I had been doing before.

I'm doing a lot of back-to-basics lately... Embarassed

Edit: Why didn't the bbcode for the second link work?

You need the protocol (http://) at the start of the URL.
boinsterman
ok,
each one with and without the "http://"

www.frihost.org:2222

http://www.frihost.org:2222

[url]worldthinker.frihost.org:2222[/url]

http://worldthinker.frihost.org:2222

and without the ":2222"
www.frihost.org

http://www.frihost.org

[url]worldthinker.frihost.org[/url]

http://worldthinker.frihost.org

Laughing I guess bbcode doesn't like to think about the world...

Well, it looks like it automatically treats URL:s starting with www. as http:// links. It even works without the [url] tag.

It's a bit inconsistent but it's a good guess because words starting with www. usually are HTTP pages. I just wish it was a bit more clever to validate the URL because in posts like this one I have to put BBCode inside the words to avoid that the obviously non-valid URL:s turn into links.
Code:
w[i][/i]ww.
h[i][/i]ttp://
boinsterman
and

www.worldthinker.frihost.org

or

www.worldthinker.frihost.org (no bbcode)
