Can ASP be used with XAMPP? As I understand it, I would need to install Microsoft Web Server on the Windows XP SP3 machine I'm on (hardly worth it, given the end of XP updates in April). I've already installed XAMPP (XP, Apache, MySQL, PHP, P?). Learning ASP for phone apps might be a good idea, though, but I can use JQuery Mobile.
Sorry but I don't get the point why you want to use XAMPP with ASP?
The last two P of XAMPP is PHP and other one is either Pearl or Python.
Anyway if you are in need of server alternative to IIS which I think you are preferring APACHE 2.
I think there are several tutorials how can you run ASP under Apache 2 server, just feel free to Google them.
I'm on an Windows XP SP3 machine. It did not come with the MS server. (I think I actually tried to install it last year and it failed.) I mainly wanted it for PHP, anyway, and the XAMPP install went fine.
Edit: I'll have to dig, but I think I've got Apache 4.
you can use abyss web server if you don't want to install IIS.
it support everything, asp classic, asp.net, php, perl .... maybe even support executable file on windows.
support is also good. you can ask anything in their forum if you get stuck.
Can phone apps be built via php? From everthing I've been able to find, all phone apps are built through things like Web Services, which I understand are based on ASP.
Why would the phone care about what server side language you are using?
Thanks, Marcuzzo. I'll look around for a PHP tutorial on the subject.
