submitted post did not display message text

I just submitted a post on the "Basics" forum titled "explanation for Fourier transform?" but when I submitted the post, the section for message text was blank (and I got 0.0088 points for the post, perhaps several times because I tried several times to resubmit it).

This form page does not allow a submission without message text, and the text shows up when I try to edit the post. Also, the corresponding code in the page source (compared to that of another post) has nothing between the postbody class span starter and my signature.

This is the code from the page

It seems to happen when the post contains a link address with a single quote character '.
Code:
[url]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Euler's_formula[/url]

To Solve the problem you can URL encode the single quote character (' -> %27).
Code:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Euler%27s_formula

You can still make the URL look nice if you use the [url] tag and specify both link address and link text.
Code:
[url=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Euler%27s_formula]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Euler's_formula[/url]

I changed the Euler formula link to "Fourier transform", and it worked. The former is linked to from the latter, anyway. But I'll remember your "%27" tip.

The new thread is at http://www.frihost.com/forums/vt-156852.html.

I%27am guessing you guessed about the single quote error from what you know of Fourier transforms?

(The tip does not seem to have worked in this post. Does it apply only in a url?)

Thanks
Peterssidan
I was able to read what you had written by pressing the quote button. I tried different things and the only change that made the text show up in the preview was when I removed the single quote from the URL.

Yes the %27 is a URL thing. It's an alternative way to encode characters in URLs that can be used to avoid problems with software that is incompatible or just can't handle certain characters in the URL.

Thanks, Peterssidan. Keeping those things in mind does make a big difference and avoid a lot of frustration.
