What is the best Language (like C for example) to write Linux apps in. I am looking for FREE with a quick compiler.
I have looked at Lazarus...
I think the best language is the one that you know and like best, or are you talking about learning a new language?
I want to move totally over to Linux. I know Delphi thats why I am happy with Lazuras. But I can make the change to what ever language is the best.. ( I hope ) I like the idea of native apps running locally... But my interest are MySQL and remote apps too...Like using Ajax..
What you think about java?
Because it is a cross platform. So you don't need to worry when you get back to windows.
IMO the 'best' one is the one that you feel the most comfortable with.
as far as binaries go I think most of the stuff on *nix machines are written in C.
there's also Java: the thing with java is the 'compile once, run everywhere' can be confusing for windows dev's. for instance: use of the registry ( I've never coded a single thing on a linux machine )
I've seen several scripts, there's the regular Bash scripts, Lua, Python, Perl, etc...
