Default icon in Windows XP

Hi all!

I lost some file icon in Windows XP, SP2. The extension file are .html and .shtml. The file open with the right application (GoLive, a web page editor), but Windowx display the "default icon" for unkonw type of file. Sad Embarassed

I tried to repair the desktop with Tweak UI, without success.

I event tried to add GoLive in éshtml extension key (class_root) in Regedit.

Even in the browser of GoLive I have the default icon (which, I presume, read the setting of windows).

Somebody help!!

Martin. Cool

Yes. I tried it. Nothing change.

I also get another problem: my MapPoint file display (.mps) a WinAmp icon!!

OK, GoLive may be stupid. Any suggestion? But don't suggest me Frontpage. Too much junk added in the code!! Laughing Wink Wink

Well, I don't think this really helps to solve the problem..

yvanmarl, you can use ie6 or whichever browser you use to open html files by default (open with > choose.. > Internet Explorer or smth, and then tick 'Use this program as default' or whatever it says)

And you can open files to edit via 'open with' > GoLive. but not using it as a default application to open .html files

Also try setting the icon manually here:
Registry\HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\htmlfile\DefaultIcon\(Default)

I will try to fix the reg key.

The "open" command act always as I want. It is only the icon that is not displaying. I have this probelm on many computers, so I'm a little bit surprise that nobody can give a definitive answer!! Smile

When I was on Mac, the problem was solved by "rebuilding the desktop". No such thing in Windows??

(OK, no more Mac/PC joke for answer please Wink Wink )
