Travails of a journalist in the making

raaeft1
My daughter is really pissed off. She joined a media organization as a trainee copy editor with great enthusiasm and unmindful of the long duty hours (4 pm to 2-3 am) thanks to the management reneging on the promise at the time of joining that a vehicle would drop her home around midnight.

However, soon she experienced dirty office politics and was at the ``receiving end'' from a section of the `bosses' even for ``mistakes'' she did not commit. She now wants to pull out and look for a new job which it is difficult to get.

As a veteran journalist with over 30 years experience, my take on the whole situation is that she would have to accept ``criticism''---whether warranted or unwarranted'' as the rule in journalism is--your work is hardly appreciated as every day is a new day.It is part of journalistic grooming that you are on the ``firing line'' as the bosses too might be under stress of bringing out a quality newspaper. But politics should be shunned as that shatters the confidence of a raw recruit.

The other option is to try for another job or work for a family venture.

Sorry to hear that they are giving your daughter a rough time and breaking promises but that is life and she is going to need to find her own way to deal with it but 'cut and run' is not the answer.
