How to make a new position in a custom joomla 1.7 template

tarreq
Dear all,

i've a test joomla 1.7 site, i use custom template.

i'd like to insert search module in the top position , but the top position for the template is somewhere under the banner !!

how can i make a new position definition ?

Regards
johans
you need to add new postion name on it.

there are many discussion on the joomla.org forum where you can get the reference.

first in template.xml add position in <position> tags and name it whatever you want, then in index.php add this where you want it to appear in the document:

Code:
<jdoc:include type="modules" name="NAME_YOU_CHOOSE_IN_TEMPLATE_FILE" />

then you can optionally arrange it in .css file of the template.

And my advice is to switch to newer versions of joomla, I don't think 1.7 is supported anymore...
