This is the first time I know, that end-user got prison for those things.

But if you use file sharing, you`re always an offeror for the time the download takes. In Germany one guy got in for one and a half years for mastering an illegal downloadpage. It was bockwurstfiles.dl.am, which was pretty good using anti leech and no file sharing. But keep aware of all illegal pages at all. They only have spyware and trojans and worms for you and your IP is recordable all the time while surfing the web. He even got caught using a non registrated cell phone card for his uploading.
actually many end-users have been caught by the RIAA, remember all those lawsuits a few years back? (like 1-2 years ago) Yeah well, not many uploaders have been caught that is true, have several have. There is some book or article on the "dark" internet or something rather. I think I saw it on TechTv back when it was a network

its very severe , three months, when some people kills other and only get few years (not always). However people must respect copyrights and sharing copyright files is like putting the finger into fan.(i dont know if its understable

PS:if you want to share some films with your friends and music the best way is by having your own server, or use another that allows u to do it
if you want to put a server try free software:appserv (supports php and mysql) So few people have been caught, though... 
Millions of people download illegally. I sometimes download copyrighted stuff
I mean, who does not? Who never downloaded a song or a video clip ??
I think that there are many crimes more important than downloading copyrighted things, and law enforcement should concentrate on rapers and murderers rather then downloaders.
I am outraged to see people who steal money getting longer jail sentences than those who rape or murder!

If you hurt somebody you get less than if you take his money.Downloading songs are so common with P2P we do not even check for copyright at times .. I think Jail for three monts is harsh for download of picture and songs.

I think they looking for user IP, and how many times that IP was related to illegal downloads/uploads.

just take a expample that i upload illegal files from different net-cafe i think so there catch simillar person and even net-cafe owner can,t spend so much money on recoring the people who came in and out one think there can do which came in my mind is there provide id card to browse which have there totally information and net-cafe owner should allow only if the id avaliable with them it may focus to looss there business lots of draw back are thereya...

If you are using a bittorrent client to download, you are also uploading at the same time.

This leagal things differ with the defferent lows of contries .. right?.
I mean in a country like Sri Lanka... there r not much lows for there type of "crimes" 
And by the way soory for that poor guy, if some ppl don't upload , how are we to download them....
