GTA sex and violence

mtoni
I'm sure of it that almost everyone of you have heard of the videogame Grand Theft Auto San Andreas. In this game there's a lot of violence etc.
you can shoot people, hit them with bats and all other 'misbehaviour'

I personally like the GTA serie but that's not important right now.
OK you can blow people's brains out, use drugs, swear etc but there wasn't a big fuss about it when GTA SA was released. It even had a ESRB rating below 17.

a few months ago a modder made the Hotcoffe mod. With this mod you can have sex in GTA, and suddenly *BOOM*.
Lots of people are somewhat furious that Rockstar shows this kind of explicity in their game, and only because of this sexthing the ESRB rating went to 18+. They even wanted to forbid the sales of GTA:SA.

I don't get this..... Killing people is something what should be the worst thing what a person could do to another and sex is what I believe fundemental for our humanity.
Why do some people complain so much about the 'sex thing' (I haven't seen it but i don't think ingame sex is exciting), while violence should be the bad guy.

PS Please don't see this topic as an assault on the GTA serie. I love the games and I don't mind the violence either.

Hey you speak some truth.. I agree with you. But you have to know that GTA: SA is bought by young ppl (and it gets younger every year). I think that's a possibility.
budazz
yeah gta becomes too violent...but we can do something... dont buy it.. dont play it...

Cool

this game is still fun becouse of the open area and you decide what and when to do. it's a great game and every gamer have gta.

there is few games that you must have and gta is one of them.

and about the killing, anyone played Serious Sam? you kill ALOT there in fact the only think you do is killing and it's still fun...

A game shouldnt be given a higher age rating because someone can mod the game, cant almost all games be modded to some extent - without the developers permission.

I have GTA san andreas for ps2 and liberty city stories for psp and i can say i like the games, but no way would i want a hotcoffee mod.
leeleez
even if they make the age limit higher there parents can just buy it for them.

So it's actually the parent's fault. Next time, they should try to understand why certain games get an "M" rating.

There's this lawyer--- Jack Thompson, who's against all games that feature violence. He believes these kind of games cause crime. Of course, he has since become a comedic/bashing staple for gamers.

Take a look at his site: http://www.stopkill.com/
There's actually nothing but bullsh** on it. How can you actually "train" yourself to kill with GTA? Can you even drive a real car using a keyboard? Maybe he should try to be smart and play the game to see if his accusations are actually true.

There's even this one time he even blamed the "sniper-shootout" to the game Halo- saying it is "a training game for snipers". Question

You and I know that Halo is nowhere near a "sniper game", as he so assumingly says.

He probably recently saw how Halo actually plays, and has deleted this accusation on his website. He replaced and shifted his blame to the already bruised GTA. After that, he's nothing more than an idiot to most people.

It's because violence has become a "normal" thing in our society and nobody realizes it.

I mean parents allow their kids to play these games where you just shoot and kill everything, but then when they see something natural (sex) the parents freak out and want to "protect" their children from it.
devroom
there are a lot of actiongames. and the children from now (including me Smile ) are used to violence in games. So you could say thats allowed in games. but a sex games isnt really allowed, and the this game is usually (not good english, but forgive me please: i cant) played trough people under the 18. And of course it is america who makes trouble, in netherlands most people doesnt care. We are normal Wink

That's because it sexual scenes, it's like porn. Kids play games with violence all the time, it's not much a big of deal in the game. But when sex comes into play, it's a different situation. They don't want those kind of scenes to be exposed to the young teens or kids.

if i were a parent i'd rather have my kid experimenting sex than experimenting violence

its only a game.. and the important thing is you are aware that there's a difference between reality and fantasy.. in some ways GTA can also be a channel of anger.. (destroying the life of virtual people rather than dishing out your anger in the real world.. this is just my humble opinion..)

Exactly. We are exposed to too much violence, yet somehow sex remains taboo. Blame it on culture.

If sex was accepted with open arms by all people, nobody would wear clothes by now. After all, clothes are the one thing that single-handedly offsets nudity/sex. lol

If sex was accepted with open arms, then it would still be too cold in some countries to wear nothing Razz

Oh come on this game is the coolest game.
It would'nt have those restirictions without a reason!
Still, very very fun game. Wasted plenty of hours on it Razz
