Fake scandals: IRS, Benghazi, NSA/Snowden

handfleisch
All three of these supposed political scandals in the USA were overblown like a child's balloon that pops and then you're left with nothing but garbage.

For weeks and weeks the right wing talk shows and FOX have been bleating about the IRS "scandal", supposedly about the government "targeting" conservative/TEA Party groups, and Republican have been holding Congressional hearings on the matter for months now. But in the end it was really about some IRS workers who were trying to do their jobs in figuring out who is eligible for tax-exempt status and who is not. The main worker responsible for going too far in checking groups was himself a conservative Republican. No group was hurt because it's legal to operate as a tax-exempt organization during the application process. Oh, and 30% of the groups "targeted" were progressive groups, and there was zero connection between all of this and the White House. Last but not least in the cognitive dissonance department, why should a Tea Party group not have to pay its taxes like every other political organization?

Benghazi: It's hard to even make a sane summary of what the right wing have been howling about on this one. After Islamic terrorists attacked the US consulate in Libya, the right wing decided they were mad at Obama, not the terrorist. They tried everything to turn this attack on the USA into a scandal by the USA. Much of it was crazy talk--the government had a drone that could have been used to stop the attack but didn't, the military could have called in reinforcements but refused, the White House lied about the attack to minimize damage, Obama wanted to help the attack because he favors Islamic militants. After months and months of Congressional hearings, all this nonsense added up to diddly squat, and the right wing exposed itself as hating Obama more than it hates terrorists.

Snowden/NSA scandal: When Edward Snowden, independent contractor for the NSA, became a whistleblower, he made several startling claims: The NSA can "quite literally can watch your ideas form as you type" and they have "direct access" to tech companies servers so they can listen to any cellphone call or email message at whim. The right wing in the USA went crazy, saying Obama was listening to everyone's phone calls. These claims have turned out to be false and the original news stories in the Wash.Post had to be rewritten and toned down, and in the end it seems the US counter-terrorism surveillance system now is pretty much the same as it was before Obama. Since then Snowden has made some other ridiculous statements, like "the US Government is not going to be able to cover this up by jailing or murdering me. Truth is coming, and it cannot be stopped." He sounds more like a childish, wannabe persecuted martyr than a responsible whistleblower. Oh, and he's hiding out in China and showing secret documents to the Chinese government, not exactly a defender of freedom.

The affair is similar to the Julian Assange affair, just with even less thunder from the public. That means the people aren't actually really caring for their personal liberties and freedom, as much as it does not hurt them. I have no doubt that USA (and a bunch of other influential and mighty countries are crossing all lines of freedom and equality of all human beings created by god:)

To me in the fight for rare goods that is quite natural. It just deconsctructs all the beatiful theories explained as the principal o American liberalism and freedom.

OK. I can foretell the affair will go out of memory pretty son..and of course all will be fogotten if the Snowden survives. If they kill him the memory can be fatal Rolling Eyes

To me, it says nothing about all those theories and principals, because Snowden turned out to be a nut, his revelations were fake and/or lies, and there was not anything new in the story.
