Chinese hackers steals Pentagon secret files

biolu
Some chinese hackers manage to hack into United States weapon research network and "steal" a lot of information on top secret US military projects, including the 1200B$ F35 project.
Quote:
"The Pentagon defended the capabilities of the military's weapons systems on Tuesday after a leaked government report alleged that Chinese hackers had breached the designs for critical U.S. weapons systems.
A spokesman for the Department of Defense said the Pentagon has taken steps to protect itself from hackers, and that cybercrimes had not compromised U.S. weapon systems.
"Suggestions that cyber intrusions have somehow led to the erosion of our capabilities or technological edge are incorrect," Pentagon press secretary George Little said in a statement. He added that DOD has "full confidence" in its weapons platforms.
His comments come after The Washington Post revealed that a secret Defense Science Board report found that Chinese hackers had compromised the blueprints for more than two dozen critical weapons systems, such as the V-22 Osprey and the F/A-18 and F-22 fighter jets.
The confidential report warned that the hackers could use the information to weaken the effectiveness of these weapons in future conflicts and aid China's efforts to develop competing weapons systems.

What is the source for this article? Just sounds almost too farfetched to be true. Or maybe there is an element of truth in it, but the source of the hacking is not from China. Maybe internal?

Original source was apparently:

http://thehill.com/blogs/hillicon-valley/technology/302169-pentagon-defends-weapons-systems-capabilities-in-light-of-chinese-hacking-report

Keep in mind that this article is mostly about the claim that the weapons were not seriously compromised. It is almost certain that China has attempted to hack our military, just as they did Google and other companies. The US is beginning to consider their activities more than just spying, but almost an act of war.

The original defense department report was discussed in the Washington Post, here:

http://www.washingtonpost.com/world/national-security/confidential-report-lists-us-weapons-system-designs-compromised-by-chinese-cyberspies/2013/05/27/a42c3e1c-c2dd-11e2-8c3b-0b5e9247e8ca_story.html

That story is much more alarming. Of course the report itself is classified, so it's hard to be sure how much damage was done. What is crystal clear is that China is making an all-out effort to compromise our systems and steal our designs.
