Find the couples

Peterssidan

Pick two cards by posting their coordinates in this thread. If the cards match they will be removed and you will receive 10 coins, otherwise the cards will be made visible (if not already visible) and will stay visible for everyone to see. After you have picked two cards you'll have to wait at least 24 hours before you pick cards again. The person who picks the most matching cards will receive an additional 50 coins at the end.

Great competition Peterssidan ... Cool

A1 and E5

PS: Do we only get one try, or can we keep on participating once you've turned over cards?

There is no limit in the number of times but you'll have to wait at least 24 hours from when you made the post before you can pick cards again.
jmraker
B1 and A2.

If either one is Peter Griffin (or any other match to a previously guessed coordinate) do I win? or would I have to wait 24 hours and hope nobody notices and posts the match without really guessing.

(then the real strategy is to lurk and wait)

The thread subject is "Find the couple". Is there another Peter Griffin, or is the match a Lois Griffin so each match is who is about who they are coupled with. (Han Solo & Princess Leia (or Chewbacca), Barack & Michelle Obama, etc )

jmraker wrote:

There is only one Peter Griffin, but no, you would not have won if you had picket Lois Griffin. You need to pick both cards at the same time.

Yes, but you probably have a bigger chance if you don't mention their names. Wink Not all of them is obvious to everyone I hope.

A2 and C3. Link and Zelda even though they're in different games.

I hope the pictures of the couples are from the same movies/tv shows. Then I'd have to start looking up if Harrison Ford is going to get freaky with Daisy Duck in one of the upcoming Star Wars Disney written films, or if they already did, like in that secret star wars christmas special in 1978 Smile

D1 and A1, Han Solo + Daisy Duck

Because Donald Duck & Daisy Duck are a couple
and because Donald has been portrayed as Han Solo in several products

But daisy duck is portrayed as Aurra Sing, a bounty hunter that seems to have no connection to han solo.

I think one of the pictures is much more obscure. I couldn't find any proof of their identity except for a few seconds in one youtube clip. I know who they are but only after a lot of guessing and searching to find that identity. If there's a photo of them like that, I can't find it (except here). I suppose it will be much easier to figure it out when their partner is is revealed.

Mary Jane and Peter Parker.

@the_emissary Well, I guess I could have but I normally don't respond unless a correct match was found, or there is a question. I believe that makes the lurk-and-wait strategy somewhat more difficult.

I started working on a web game engine based on this contest. The rules so far is 1 guess per hour. The fastest time wins (first guess to last guess) so the late comers can have a shot. Everybody's pieces will be randomized. Giving the answers away would only help the late comers beat your time.

I wanted to make the Barbie and Ken match, unfortunately I guessed a few minutes before.
It was a long search to figure out that C2 was Ken mostly based on his modeling pose. After I found the youtube video I tried to find a picture of Ken in the game but couldn't find one photo. I tried to get the game to run under an emulator so I could make a picture, but the game was an Indiana Jones hack and the Commodore 64 interface isn't user friendly. I couldn't get past the title screen on 2 emulators so I gave up.

This is what I was going to guess:

Ken is from the 1984 Commodore 64 floppy disk game http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jb-Fs8e0iQE&t=1m55s
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barbie_%281984_video_game%29

Or to be more precise, Donald and Daisy Duck.

It's almost the end of the competition and I think you clearly have this one in the bag. Let's share some secrets of the trade. My main weapon was Google image search. http://images.google.com

All I did was right-click an image in Chrome, and then copy its image URL. Then, I searched for this image using Google image search, and poof, its identity was revealed. This worked out great for me, except for the Guybrush Ulysses Threepwood and Elaine Marley match. I just couldn't find the latter.

You mention finding the images in Youtube videos. How did you go about that?

I didn't know google could do that. I found pictures of Ken right away with it. I found the youtube clip by wracking my brain to make a list of games/people it could be and going from there. It was a short list of mostly Fred Jones of scooby doo and a lot of searching for "Sweater Vest" and getting Rick Santorum Smile
I moved on and then went by how they were posed like a model, guessed Ken in a video game and started looking through the barbie games for a similar look. It's odd that google can find pictures of ken in the game based on the image but it's search engine can't
https://www.google.com/search?q=barbie+1984+video+game&tbm=isch

I think you should use original images, or heavily modify existing images, to make it difficult to find the images using Google. That Elaine Marley image was a really tough one. Very Happy

I thought I remembered it was possible to do something like that but I couldn't find how to do it so I thought they had removed that feature or I had remembered wrong. Searching the image URL doesn't seem to work for me for some reason. Confused

Guybrush and Elaine probably didn't work because I took the screenshots myself.

It just worked for me, enter the image url, it comes back with a link to "search by image", it's that link that years and years of meticulous couples contest work are destroyed at my fingertips.
http://www.google.com/insidesearch/features/images/searchbyimage.html

My contest game page doesn't put the image in an <img> tag so it won't be so easy to get the urls, I am doing some photo editing and I can .htaccess block google's search bot so it won't work so easily
It's just as easy to use that search to see if you need to edit it more
I used google images to find the photos, and it's easy to confuse it. What works the best is to really sharpen it up and if that doesn't work editing the background. It usually goes from getting the name right to getting something else right. On the other hand it's crazy good with my old black and white photo. It took a lot of colorization and severe changes to baffle the mighty google artificial intelligence.

Ah, that explains it. I found the former, but couldn't find the latter. In hindsight, I probably should have searched for "Guybrush girlfriend" and found out what Elaine looks like. It does seem to work, but Elaine seems to have many different portrayals.

When I figured out the game pirate was from Monkey Island I went to the game's wiki and got her name and clicked to her wikia.com page for what she looked like way before she was revealed.

I had no idea who Joyce Barnaby was so I went through the latter half of Harrison Ford's film career to see if any of the actresses in them looked like her. I also didn't know F2 was Karen until Codegeek mentioned the google trick. I don't think I ever seen a whole spongebob toon.
