Language settings and duplicate content

Peterssidan
Imagine a site with user-generated content i.e. a blog or forum. It is possible to choose the language to be used for all content that is not user-generated. The different languages are located at different URLs. All content that is relevant to the search engines (the user-generated content) will be exactly the same for all languages so we do have duplicate content. I was wondering how to best handle this.

I am solved this with session. The language is in separate folders (except index page of main language what is in root folder - public_html not in subfolder) and each language page have trigger what write lang session. The user pages are in separate folder and back links are building with this session. For example:
http://mysite/en/index.php (index page in English language)
http://mysite/de/index.php (index page in German language)

If you are coming from English folder then session is $_SESSION['lang'] = 'en'. The same is for German language $_SESSION['lang'] = 'de'.

On user page you need to build links automatically with session:
Code:
$lang = $_SESSION['lang'];
<a href="http://mysite/$lang/index.php">HOME</a>

In that case you will have only one user content and any number of languages.
