Using keywords to quickly enter sites in Firefox

Gregoric
Greetings Frihosters!

Is there possibility to somehow automatically enter previously set website after typing particular word(s) in Firefox?

As an example: I would type 'frihost' into the address bar and brrowser would automatically go to http://www.frihost.com. I've heard that it is possible to do with browsers - like you type in 'g bla bla' and browser automatically searches for bla bla in Google but this is not what I want to achieve. I just want to be able to set single words to launch some websites without using bookmarks.

How do I do it? If there are add-ons responsible to do it, would you let me know which ones? I couldn't google any of likely.

Thanks in advance,
badai
last time i can do that on firefox. it will look up com, net and org before giving the hostname not found error. now i use palemoon and it just google it for me.

Actually, type "frihost" and push Ctrl + Enter, and you would go to www.frihost.com

likeabreeze, great hint, thank you. Do you know if it works only for filling the address with .com or I may somehow configure it to add other endings?

Of course, I am still searching for even better solution but if there will not be any, the one above must be enough for me.

You could create a bookmark with a very short name, e.g. nl for the wikipedia page about the Netherlands (this)

Keyboard: type "nl" in the search field and press: <Cursor down> <Enter>

Works for any domain.. the requested URL appears as first item in the list.

Of course you could put your often used URL in the bookmark toolbar also. Click and you're in..

If you type frihost in the address bar you can probably find and select http://www.frihost.com/ in the list (if you have visited that URL before). If you do this many times the URL will rank higher so after a few times it will be the first URL in the list. To go to the Frihost forums I usually just type fr in the address bar and select the first URL in the list.

If you are using Firefox, just try these keyboard shortcuts:

Ctrl + Enter = www.***.com
Shift + Enter = www.***.net
Ctrl + Shift +Enter = www.***.org

Here's how to do it in firefox.

1. Make a bookmark(s) to the site(s).
2. Open the bookmark manager Control+Shift+B
3. Select the bookmark and click the more button below the properties, if you don't see the bookmark properties below you probably need to right click and select Properties.
4. In the "Keyword" field, Enter the word that you want to map the bookmark to
5. Entering the keyword becomes a shortcut to the bookmark.

Doing this you can enter "fb" to go to your facebook page. It doesn't work too well with spaces in the keyword.

Perfect! That is exactly what I have been searching for! I had thought to search for such option somewhere in the Firefox but eventually didn't find it. Thank you, jmraker; since now, you are my favourite Firefox expect, haha Smile. Gotta go and keyword my favorite bookmarks now!
