Are there any plans to supprt Java on Frihost? I haven't previously worked with java but am quite curious. Any tips on other free java hosts?
Java hosting
What kind of Java are you referring to? I know that Frihost supports Java Applets, but I don't know about Java Servlets. You'll have to wait for Bondings response as regards Java Servlets.
At the moment, we don't provide it. I might add it in the future, but I'm still doubting about it.
I was thinking about Tomcat and jsp-pages, and possibly javabeans. I was just curious. I am looking forward to having a go with PHP, which is new to me as I have previuosly only used ASP ( which is not the premium choice around here?)
I used to use ASP........ But PHP is so much more powerful. Once you learn PHP, you'll wonder how you ever used ASP. I mean, look at uploading a file through a web form, for example. ASP requires pages and pages of code, whereas the PHP code is only a few lines...
ASP is a Microsoft technology. This means that (usually) only Microsoft servers can use this technology. Most hosts use Apache, however, so they don't have access to the technology. However, some companies have made solutions to overcome this (for example, http://www.apache-asp.org/). Apache runs 70% of websites, whereas Microsoft's IIS only runs 20% (source)
A list of all the functions (mostly in-built) to PHP can be found here: http://www.php.net/manual/en/funcref.php. Some of those functions ASP can only dream about

I was wondering if FriHost supported TomCat as well?
Yes, No? Maybe so?
