How would you spend a million dollars in a day?

shashwatblack
If you were given a million dollars, and were asked to spend it in a day, how would you?
The restriction is that you cannot invest it, buy something, destroy it or give it to somebody else.. You gotta spend it on yourself.. (and maybe just one other friend)

My point is that, you couldn't, right? It's a loooot of money, and one day is just not enough to spend that big amount..

So what would be the limit according to you?? What's the maximum you could spend, and how?

Here's the list:
1. Buy a ton of property. (Wait, is that an investment? Ok I'll try another one.)
2. Buy the coolest gadgets and the fastest internet money can buy. (I'm guessing I'd have to shell out 200 to 300K or so.)
3. Import a Ferrari from abroad. (via helicopter, hehe)
4. Two words: Scrooge McDuck's swimming pool. OK, it's not exactly two words, and it's not technically "spending". But it's swimming in money! How cool is that?
5. Call up my favourite band to perform a personal concert for me and a few friends.
6. Buy a zebra. "But why?", you ask. Well, why not?

I'd probably travel around the whole world (after I buy a couple of helicopters, of course. One is for the journey and one is as a backup) and spend money on everything I can lay my eyes on. That oughta do it!! Very Happy

An interesting question. I take it we get the million dollars in cash or on a card, and then physically have to shop until we drop .... real shopping as opposed to round about ways of spending the money.

I'd hit all of the souks in Dubai. I'm dead certain I'd be able to spend a million dollars in a day.

Guess you'd probably need to ask too what does one do with million dollars of shopping that one doesn't really need at the end of the day. I'd probably donate all of the purchases to needy causes.
badai
the condition is you cannot buy with it.

If I wanted to unwisely spend 1 million dollars quick I'd go shopping on amazon.com for a really fancy dash mount

Well everything comes down to an investment so there isn't much that I could do for myself. I can't buy a house to live in (which is what I would do first) because that is real estate and investing an equity. I cannot purchase an automobile because I am investing in my future transportation. Etc.

It seems like the only reasonable thing to do would be donate $998,000 to a worthy charity and then go to Vegas for the night (I live one hour flight or 3.75 hour drive) and blow the other $2,000 on strippers and booze.

On a side note, is gambling considered an investment? I could, selfishly, go to Vegas and gamble all of that money on Roulette (where your return is pretty high if you always bet on a single color) by playing 100 games with a bet of $10,000 each time and I'd still end up going home with high six figures and since all of that is new money, then I wouldn't have to spend it all in that day and I could invest in property (by a house) so that I always have a place to live.

If only. The house edge on roulette is something like 5%; you're much more likely to lose money. The best games at a casino typically are:

Poker (if you're good). You're playing against others, not the house.

Blackjack. Low house edge if you play perfectly. If you can count cards and the casino you're at has no countermeasures, you can create a negative house edge.

Craps: The house edge on the pass line is something like 1.4%. The "odds" bet is one of the few with no house edge at all.

That still isn't bad considering that it takes absolutely no skill.

I actually thought that it would be a little higher than 5% but I haven't done the math (and I should; I'm a mathematician). So are you saying that if I bet all of my million in 100 increments of $10,000, that the house will end up making $50,000? That's okay; I'll walk away with $950,000. It counts as a major loss and so that money will be tax free and then I have found a loophole to keep 95% of the money that I was supposed to spend in a day and then I could invest in real estate and make a ton more.

I'd be better off with Poker but the issue is that we were told that we only have one day to spend it. Given that I'd spend four of those hours driving to Vegas, I'd only have about 20 hours to spend it. Given that I'd get tired towards the end and start betting stupidly, I don't think that Poker would be better. Also, I'd have to make super high bets to insure that I actually spent all of the money in the 20 hours that I am allotted and how many players would call my $10,000 bets? With Roulette, you could easily make 100 bets in 20 hours. That's only 5 bets an hour which is about one bet every 12 minutes. If I was low on time I would raise my bets to $20,000 and then I'd only have to make a bet every 24 minutes.

Finally, I do not know the rules of Craps because I absolutely despise gambling. I don't play any gambling games but I know the rules of Roulette - for the most part - because the game (from what I know) is quite trivial; you place a bet that you will roll a certain number or color and you win if you do.

What would I do if I had a million dollars to spend within a day. I am not sure how I could do that but if I had to I would:

1) Invest a lot in shares/stocks
2) Buy a nice house
3) Buy a car, a really nice one. May be 2 cars.
4) Buy plane tickets and book the nicest hotels and pay in advance for a vacation.
5) And donate the rest to charity.

How I wish I had a million dollars !! Confused

in a bank dahhh Very Happy

why are most answers about buying something, or real estate, or depositing in banks when it clearly says no buying and no investments... you'll have to spend it eating, or partying, or maybe even gambling....
grofet
The easy way is giving it to the poor but it helps them temporarily. It would be better to create a lot of business to help jobless poor people out there. With that i will have additional credit for heaven's ticket.

In one day?
*thinks*
I'd go to one of the most expensive restaurants and pay for the days food. (then ppl could just walk in and eat for free)
I'd buy a TON (or 2) of stuff on amazon. Gadgets, clothes, shoes, books, cosmetics.
Buy out a flight and fly my friends to another island for a few hours while I shopped.
I'd more than likely have to walk into a store selling expensive crystals and 'accidently' bump into and knock over about 500k worth of stuff. I'm sure i can bump into things while getting up also (LOL).

All in all, if I had to. I think I could spend it in one 24 hour period.

You are not allowed to give the money away.

If I can't give it away how could I pay for anything? Well I guess I could make a nice hat out of it and have people staring at me for one day. Or do you mean we are not allowed to give it away in return for nothing? In that case I would pay my brother one million dollars for something as useless as a handshake.

to spend a million dollar a day is simple and easy.. no need to plan but to earn a million dollar a day is opposite in each other.

I preferred planning on HOW to earn than spending.

Too funny!

That much might get me a one race major sponsorship (hood/quarters) of my product on a good NASCAR car. I did say might! Although Waltrip would probably give me a season since he lost NAPA. Laughing

By spending 41666.6 dollars in one hour. I this should not be difficult. Just go to a casino and start to play.

I think there are a lot of ways to spend a million dollars. You just need to be creative sometimes because you're not used to having that much money. For one thing, you can simply buy a house or some other type of property. That in itself would almost account for the entire one million dollars, depending on the house and where it is located. There are surely houses that sell for more than that too. You could also spend it on multiple cars, although that's a bit redundant. I don't think that there are cars that sell for a million, but I could be wrong.
pravojednostavno
I would invest in anything to get 1.5 million dollars on the same day. Only the day after I would enjoy spending every cent
