i have seen what you say but they are mostly chinese cheap devices which will get unusable soon, my suggestion to you is hd media players from popular brands like Western Digital, they are nearly same device which you can connect you external hard drive to it and play any media in it on tv.

there are also some models which come with internal drive like Western Digital Tv Live Hub which comes with 1TB internal drive which costs around 180$ now. it is also capable of playing media files from you network and many other features.

Hi, I bought 1 year ago one mediaplayer: Iamm NTR-90
I placed inside a 1TB HDD Sata II
This Mediaplayer rocks, many firmware upgrades, the latest makes you store also 3d movies and if your one is a 3dtv, you can play them. it has digital TV Tuner HD, supports Full HD.
It has hdmi output and also RGB.
I'd recommend it
