Do not view directly with optical instruments

Peterssidan
I got a computer mouse as Christmas present and it has this text at the back of the box.
Quote:
INVISIBLE LASER RADIATION
DO NOT VIEW DIRECTLY WITH
OPTICAL INSTRUMENTS
CLASS 1M LASER PRODUCT

Does that mean I should not look into the sensor with my bare eyes or just that I should not use optical instruments when doing so? I guess optical instruments means things like binoculars or microscope. What if I place my eye very close to the sensor?
