Since 1 week ago i was thinking about having my own server. Ive used appserv and that sort of things but i wanted to put a server for friends with lots of benefits that large servers (except this) dont have.

ABOUT SERVERS I would like to know what software it is used, if its free or u have to pay for it.-How much up speed do i have to have for having a server, wich operative system is preferible, how can i get rid of hackers, what would you add to my question list?

ABOUT DOMAINSI would like to know how they are created and if its a possibility of having them free (i mean .com .net .org not .tk)
i hope i could do something about this,
