How to access my website via IP?

likeabreeze
It's well-known that we frihosters' websites are actually hosted on the same server, so here come the question, how to access my website via IP, not via domain names?

It's simply not possible in shared hosting configuration... You must provide your website domain for the Apache server to know where to go to serve it ... Thanks to HTTP 1.1 protocol !

It is possible only if admin allow your domain as default in control panel (or directadmin). you can't expect this in a shared hosting. you can go for low cost vps with dedicated ip. or some paid hosting with diedicated IP. but it won't be free Smile

There is maybe one way to access your site using just an IP address.

It depends on who the setup is done.

exemple:

On a linux server, if you install Apache and you have shell accounts.
Then normally the user of the shell account can create a folder (depending on the configuration), but default on apache is "public_html".
and then to access this folder using just the servername/ip would be http://hostname-or-ip/~username/

Like i said, this is possible if its normal shell user accounts, and dont forget the "~" sign before the username.

Im not sure how frihost set things up, but this might not work on their setup (i have never tried it here).
