Cybercrime Law

Here in the Philippines, the Cybercrime law was declared (similar to SOPA) which prohibits online piracy, pornography, and libel.
Most netizens protest against this especially on the section which discusses about libel that might remove freedom of speech.
What are your opinions about this? are you in favor of having this law?

No I am against filtering like China does. I may be against some material online, but I still don't want the government to run the internet either. Besides there are Web filters that people can use on their own computers. I use opendns and can filter junk if I choose to.

I am definitely not for any sneaky, underhanded grabs at power, which is what these kinds of bills feel like. Any attack on freedom of speech is never in the interest of the common people. If citizens make untrue comments on the web about the president, so what? Terrorists are probably putting out a great deal of crap about free nations. If the government is worried about people getting the wrong idea concerning it's intentions, maybe it needs to provide more transparency, and stop effing-up the economy in order to "help the rich" at every chance they get. Emplacing "legislature" (real legislature strengthens, not weakens) that would more easily allow governments to stamp out info, causing dissent, that THEY do not agree with (especially legitimate info cause for concern) is NOT OK.
Any attempt to create a justification for such legislature should be met with extreme skepticism and opposition until they can prove that all politicians have gone legit and "will never ever, cross-their-hearts-and-hope-to-die (Rolling Eyes) , deceive the American people again.

Ah yes the great firewall of China. We really don't want it to let the Internet to get to that level or worse of censorships. One of the last mediums left for underground ideologies and freedom of speech to flourish relatively easily. We must do our best to protect the WWW

How did you allow that to happen there?

I'd imagine every one is going to go for a proxy account now? And then next thing proxy accounts will also be declared as not allowed to have.

That's the bad thing about this kind of law. It's like a trojan horse for so many other things leading to a complete invasion of privacy.
