Only www subdomain of subdomain loads

Qantas94Heavy
I have been trying to find a way to redirect the non-www subdomain to the www subdomain (I only have a non-frihost subdomain), when it dawned on me to actually try to load the non-www page. I have created a .htaccess file with the code to 301 redirect the webpage to the www version, however when I tried to type in the non-www version the page Google Chrome says that it can't find the page, however the www version is fine. I'm using a subdomain for this website, however I don't think it's because of that because I can load the www version fine. I recently tried changing the nameserver to ns2.frihost.org (I'm on Server 4), so the website won't be available for a while (both ways). Is there any reason for this (the frihost subdomain that I have doesn't have any issue with this)?

This is how I do it.
Code:
RewriteEngine on

RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^yoursite.net$ [NC]
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www.yoursite.net/$1 [R=301,L]

Please mention the domain (or pm it to me if you want it to be private).

Also, if you recently changed nameservers, that could explain a lot. Maybe the www or the non-www version is cached and hence displays an older/newer version than the other one.

Finally, I don't know if this is the case, but if you change nameserver you need to change all of them to the new ones (in your case ns1.frihost.org and ns2.frihost.org). I've seen people use 4 nameservers and 2 of them are ours, which causes problems to about 50% of the visitors and might give a different result for www and non-www.

My subdomain is eyredaero.airfare.com.au (from FreeDNS, without the www). I have not added a www subdomain, but I can't load it at all from typing in http://eyredaero.airfare.com.au, while http://www.eyredaero.airfare.com.au works fine. I've checked both of the subdomains on whatsmydns.net and only the non-www version has any nameservers pointing to ns1.frihost.org. BTW if it's any use, I've tested this in the latest stable release of Google Chrome, Firefox 15.0.1 and even the Android stock browser (funnily enough Opera Mini works fine).

Both names now work for me, pulling up a Joomla site that has been installed but no (or little) content added yet. The first link did have a trailing comma in it which I had to remove to get it to work -- common hazard of typing urls into a forum post!

I hope the nameservers have propagated the changes now and that it works correctly for you and all your potential visitors.

Both are working fine for me. I think it just needed some time. Probably tomorrow it will work fink fine for you too.

Odd. It wasn't working for a week (I thought I'd give it some time before asking) and a day after I changed the nameservers from ns1.frihost.org to ns2.frihost.org it is fine. Thanks guys!

It's working fine for me too so don't worry it will be alright in a few days I think. In the meantime, focus on your site first so that you could spice it up a little more. Cool
