Well, it's quite impressive altough I don't it's beautiful.
The purple background makes a nice contrast with the hands but i just don't like the color.
I'm not really sure if its 'handmade' or Photoshopped because when you look at the thumbs you see a tiny text

That's a really clever idea, plus the message is good, if a little cheesey.
And yeah, it has to be photoshop. You can see the blending on the wrists and text from the political map that they overlayed on the hands.
But if you ask me a photoshopped image is just as good as the real thing.

I could think one way it could be done.
And that would to print the world map on to body transfer film. Just like a tattoo transfer.
then a slight touch of airbrushing.
Or else a slight touchup in photo shop.
